D.A.D. (Disneyland After Dark) - 1990 - The Stone - San Francisco, CA
After some notable chatter around town about some crazy Danish band that will soon be making it big, D.A.D. (or as they used to be known as Disneyland After Dark) came to The Stone in San Francisco, CA sometime in 1990. (I cannot remember the exact date.) With their brand of hard rock, which they called cowpunk, the band was something exciting to watch. They were decidedly different indeed. From their style and delivery, to their songwriting - which varied subtely between different influences - to bassist Stig Pedersen's spark-exploding headgear and two-stringed basses, D.A.D. were pop enough for radio, dark enough for the punks and hard rock fans, and still very underground in delivery. The band at this point consisted of vocalist / guitarist Jesper Benzer (at some point wearing an Animal Control Officer outfit), lead guitarist (and Jesper's brother) Jacob Binzer, bassist Stig Pedersen, and drummer Peter Lundholm Jensen. I've waited 18 years for D.A.D. to return to the United States, and as the band is still performing in good form, I would hope that they would consider this request.
