- David Bowie performing at the Area2 Festival at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mt. View, CA on Wed. August 14, 2002. This concert was in support of his "Heathen" CD release and featured bassist / vocalist Gail Ann Dorsey, drummer Sterling Campbell, pianist Mike Garson, guitarists Earl Slick and Gerry Leonard, and keyboardist/vocalist Catherine Russell. Other acts on this eclectic bill included Moby, Busta Rhymes, Blue Man Group, Ash, John Digweed, DJ Tiesto, and more. A great day in the sun to see some great bands. To note, Bowie seemed genuinely happy to be there and seemed to have a lot of fun with the set. After having seen Bowie in concert for over 20 years, this was the first time I had seen him beemingly smiling during the whole performance.
