Def Leppard performing at the Oakland Arena in Oakland, CA on October 15, 1983 on their Pyromania Tour. Band members at that time included vocalist Joe Elliott, bassist Rick "Sav" Savage, drummer Rick Allen, and guitarists Steve Clark and Phil Collen.

During the break in this show, I was on the floor meeting up with a lot of old friends. We were exchanging phone numbers and talking. As the amount of acquaintances grew, the accumulated crowd of people surrounding me gave a considerably different impression to audience members in the balcony who suddenly came running down surrounding all of us, with papers and pens in hand asking for autographs. The confusion and disappointment set in rather quickly when the majority of strangers realized that they did not know me, and I definitely was not a member of Def Leppard. But the few minutes of simulated adoration and "fame" was enough to make for an amusing story. As far as the rest of my friends, they suddenly wondered if I was secretly more popular than I was letting on.
