THE DICKIES - 12/31/1989 - New Year's Eve - Cactus Club - San Jose, CA
Yay! It's the Dickies! Without question, one of punk rock's most fun bands, The Dickies performed a New Year's Eve show at The Cactus Club, in San Jose, CA, on Sun. December 31, 1989. Featuring founding members vocalist Leonard Graves Phillips and guitarist Stan Lee, the band was rounded out by bassist Laurie (Lorenzo) Buhne, drummer Cliff Martinez (of Red Hot Chili Peppers fame), and second guitarist Enoch Hain (Bob Lansing Jr, son of actor Bob Lansing). The band chainsawed through their speeded up song covers ("Banana Splits," "Communication Breakdown") as well as their own, replete with stage props, including the forearm length giant talking dick puppet (with balls hanging from the elbow) for the song "If Stuart Could Talk." Opening the show were South Bay favorites the Frontier Wives. Fun for all!
