- Listing of all the Day On The Green concerts I've shot. Days On The Green were held at Oakland Stadium in Oakland, CA. After they had officially retired the name in the early 1990s, several concerts were held at the stadium that held the D.O.G. title unofficially. As well, several 4th of July Day On The Greens were held, complete with fireworks shows. What made these mini-Woodstock-type shows fun, in the days before all the newer high-tech gadgetry, was that they usually started at 10am and finished by 6pm, and it was a great way to see a lot of different bands in one venue at one time. Promoter Bill Graham liked to give people variety, to help expose new music to everyone. Everyone had time to go do something else in the evening. We would almost never get any sleep, arriving to sit in line by 3am before the show. It was never boring though, as an all-night Gran Prix go-cart racing facility was right at the edge of the parking lot. If you weren't into racing, you could play all the pinball and video game machines. And although one might get the impression that it was just a rough-house party haven with the main drive-through being littered with bottles, clothes, and personal effects before the concert even began, it's important to note that these were the days when it was fun and safe to go out and do things. Everyone looked out for each other, and made sure no one got hurt. It really was a community mind-set to be at these shows. All your friends were there, and you would definitely meet new friends - to see at the next one. Day On The Green concerts are still seriously missed even today. The dates below only list the bands that I actually photographed on those days.
