ENUFF Z'NUFF - 12/01/1989 - Cactus Club - San Jose, CA
The band was Enuff Z'Nuff, and they were one of the breakout bands of the late 1980s who, along with bands like Jellyfish, tried to bring back the look and attitude of the dreamy fantasy world of the Hippie Generation (which never actually existed except in posters) mixed with cleverly crafted power pop rock tunes. It could have worked, and should have worked, but yet somehow it all got lost in the muck and mire of grunge just a couple of years down the line. There went the last bastion of upbeat, inspiring pop rock. But at least we had these bands for a short while. This particular show was on Enuff Z'Nuff's first headlining tour in support of the self-titled major debut release. This show was at the Cactus Club on Fri. December 1, 1989. The band consisted of vocalist / guitarist Donnie Vie, bassist (and namesake) Chip Z'Nuff (Chip Zenefski), drummer Vikki Foxx, and guitarist Derek Frigo (originally from the S.F. heavy metal band Le Mans). The band delivered the goods during their performance, which left a lot of people hoping for more of this brand of rock.
