Girlschool - 1983 (?) - Keystone Palo Alto - Palo Alto, CA

Girlschool performing at the infamous Keystone Palo Alto in Palo Alto, CA in 1983. The band consisted of vocalist/guitarist Kim McAuliffe, guitarist Kelly Johnson, bassist Gil Weston, and drummer Denise Dufort.

At this time I was still working for Steel Meel Magazine (in the idea that we might actually publish again). We met with Girlschool and hung out backstage. At that time, I was absolutely hooked on Kelly Johnson (and her Farrah Fawcett mane) - call it a "crush" if you will. I had made a passing comment that her and I should go out some time (eschewing the fact that I was in California and she was in England). We all continued talking for an hour or so and it was time to go. The band had autographed some photos from a previous show that I had shot. What I had not noticed for about 20 years was that Kelly had written her phone number on the back of one of the photos. I must have put the photo back into a photo album and never noticed it until going through my old collection years later. So of course, for the next 20 years I can keep thinking about all the "what could have been's" if I had only looked on the back. Some day... some day...
