Rammstein - 06/20/1999 - Maritime Hall - San Francisco, CA
Rammstein - one of the more controversial bands in the industrial / metal genre. This is from one of their first performances in America, touring for the "Sensucht" CD, on June 20, 1999 at the Maritime Hall in San Francisco, CA. The band consisted of vocalist Till Lindemann, bassist Oliver "Ollie" Riedel, keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lorenz, drummer "Christoph "Doom" Schnieder, and guitarists Paul H. Landers and Richard Zven "Scholle" Kruspe.

The band is known, and gotten in some trouble for outrageous performances and visuals (both on promotional materials and in video). What they were originally most infamous for was vocalist Till Lindemann's obsesison with fire and explosives (a strange hobby considering his being a contender as a 1980 Olympic swimmer). On this particular tour, Lindemann provided a bit of homo-eroticism into the show during the song "Bück Dich" in which Till would pull out an impressive-sized phallus from his pants, bend keyboardist Christian "Flake" Lonrez over forward, and proceed to simulate a sex act with Flake. This would then end with Till providing the "money shot" (actually custard) all over the crowd for the remainder of that particular song - while looking apologetic for the non-stop dousing. The creamery would cease, phallus placed back in the trousers, and the show would continue. On June 5, 1999, Till and Flake were both arrested in Mass. for "lewd and lacivious acts" but were released the following day on $25. bail, and a $100. fine. This portion of the show proved to be rather a proper piece to perform in San Francisco (known as the second largest gay capital in the U.S.). Yes, those photos are here, on the following page.

To note: The extra "m" in the name makes the name "battering ram" (literally "ramming stone"). Also, the minor planet 110393 Rammstein is named in honor of the band.
