- Hailed as "The Best Unknown Guitarist In The World," Roy Buchanan was a stylist in his own right. He was frustrated for much of his career, not being allowed to play and record in the styles which he wished. That changed in 1985 when, upon joining the Alligator label, Roy was finally given total artistic freedom, as it also entered the Billboard charts. These photos are from a performance he did at the Keystone in Palo Alto, on Monday, December 5, 1983. Sadly, Roy died on August 14, 1988, as an apparent suicide while in jail, although circumstances lead to doubts of the real cause of death. His playing style was innovative and enticing, and he was the only lead guitarist to headline Carnegie Hall consistantly over 15 years. Opening the show on this date were two S.F. Bay Area rock bands - The Kidz, and Jonas Grumby.
