- Ruby Slippers was one of those "I've heard that name" glam-slam bands from Los Angeles in the mid-1980s, when men looked like glamorous women, and their girlfriends were worried. Fronted by guitarist Kay Vee (Keith Varady), the band also consisted of vocalist Nigel, drummer Matthias Montgomery, and bassist Rexx. Make-up was never worn so well as by Ruby Slippers. Aside from the music, the funny part was - they weren't gay. It would take a decade or two later before comedian/actor Eddie Izzard would explain cross-dressing as nothing homosexual in nature, but simply a way to double your warddrobe. However, the hairspray - if ever there was a fire hazzard, that would have been it. This is from a show at The Stone in San Francisco, CA some time in 1986.
