- When you think of a single S.F. Bay Area hard rock icon, who has been around seemingly forever, you usually would think of Sammy Hagar. Hagar started in the classic, and legendary, Montrose. From there, he took a couple of members and formed his own band. For a side-project, Hagar also co-formed the short-lived HSAS. In the mid-1980s, the unexpected happened as the usually area-headlining Hagar accepted the gig as lead vocalist for Van Halen. That proved a successful venture, which unfortunately soured over a decade later. And now Hagar is back fronting his own band again, only this time adding an extra name recognition for his band - thus, Sammy Hagar & The Wabos.
